Climate Books for Classrooms

Overview
Climate Books for Classrooms is a digital library designed to help teachers integrate climate change into their classrooms and increase climate justice literacy. As a collaborative effort with graduate students at Boston College and Lesley University's Community Design Studio, I led a group of fellow designers to create brand identity and user experience.
Role: Student Lead, UX/UI Designer

Problem
According to a study conducted by the Smithsonian Science Education Center, 17% of teachers in the United States do not feel supported enough to be able to incorporate climate change topics into their elementary school classrooms.
90% of teachers feel that they lack time to cover additional topics alongside their curriculums.
Research Insights
For school curriculums, there is a core curriculum that says what needs to be taught at each grade level, and incidental content that is a collection of work that teachers can choose to use to whatever extent they please. So being able to search by grade level provides the most efficient way to identify relevant books.
Additionally, offering a clear method to browse the full catalog supports teachers who may not know exactly what they are looking for, making discovery more intuitive and time-efficient.
Design Process
First, we determined various user flows and site maps to explore all possible options before finalizing them.
We then designing various low fidelity prototypes to determine what method of filtering would be the most efficient for our users.
